If 2013 was Great…Make 2014 Better

Posted

It’s hard to believe we’ve already flown through January and are almost a full week into February. Just a few weeks ago we were discussing making resolutions and setting new business objectives for 2014.  Now that a month has gone by, it’s time to assess how those goals are playing out so far.  Here are a few ways you can make sure you’re on track to make 2014 the most successful year yet.

Have a Written Plan.
As mentioned last month, it’s essential you put your plan in writing.  You need to have a few pages outlining your objectives, strategies, and marketing plan.  If you don’t put these down on paper, you won’t have something to hold yourself accountable to. Writing it down is the crucial step to making sure you put the plan into action.

Be Flexible.
You don’t have to be married to your plan.  Every great business leader knows that sometimes the plan has to be thrown out the window due to unforeseen occurrences.  When this happens, be flexible, adjust your plan and march onward.

Listen to Your Advisers.
If you don’t already have a group of trusted advisers; form one.  You need a core group of people who you can trust, are able to bounce ideas off of, and that hold you accountable for what you’re doing.  These people will help push your limits and achieve greater accomplishments.  They’ll make sure that you’re not just focusing on your personal interests but also the interests of the business.

Delegate Tasks.
Part of being a successful manager is learning to delegate tasks and then oversee progress.  You hire employees to do work more effectively, so make sure you’re using them appropriately.  Don’t be a control freak and micromanage, and you’ll get more out of your employees than you expect.

Reinvent.
For 2014, try focusing on net profit and not gross revenue.  Separate yourself apart from your competitors and create a new competitive advantage.  Take a look at what your competitors have done in the first month of the year and come up with a way to differentiate yourself over than by price.  Use social media and networking to create a community and connect with your target market.

By working hard, building a solid plan, and focusing on your brand, you have the opportunity to make this your most successful year yet.  If you need more staff to build the perfect team, let the experienced recruiters at RealStreet Staffing provide you with the best construction and engineering talent.
